Sticky Date Pudding Christmas Dessert with Butterscotch Sauce and a Christmas Twist!
If you are looking for an easy and impressive dessert to serve at Christmas, then you may like what Catherine from my team has made to impress your guests too.
This Sticky Date Pudding with Butterscotch Sauce is based on the original Donna Hay recipe, however it has a festive twist just in time for Christmas. It's a lighter option to a Christmas pudding, so perfect for a hot Christmas day and Catherine chose to add classic Christmas spices in with the flour for an overall gingerbread taste and aroma. She baked it in a bundt tin for the Christmas wreath effect and then served with warm butterscotch sauce and brandy custard. You could also add ice cream for a hot day.
Add the sauces to jugs and let your guests drizzle their own warm sweet toppings at the table and sit back to take the credit for the best dessert yet!
If you serve this the day of baking it is so light and fluffy, or it can sit in an airtight container in the fridge for a few days as it gets "stickier"
This is a great go-to recipe to prepare a day or two before or you can even freeze it for up to 1 month if you are really organised. Here is Catherine's variation on the original recipe to follow below.
Catherine used the Nordic Ware bundt tin which can be purchased here, or you can use a standard cake tin, slice tin or muffin trays.
Happy Baking...and eating!
❤️
Nicole.
2020 Christmas Theme - Whimsical
It's no news to you all that I really love the whimsical Christmas colours of red, white and lime green as I have used it for so many years, both in my own home and in the store. So it's no surprise we have given this favourite colour combination a revamp for 2020 with a theme simply called - Whimsical.
Whimsical is all about cheeky elf fun.
Our tree and garland always begin by lighting them. We added balls, finials and candy canes all representing this fun colour combination to our tree. Then we built up the larger pieces like drums, playful posable elves, red & white Poinsettia flower picks and finished with a bigger elf as the topper.
I love that you can move away from the traditional decor with a fun theme like Whimsical and have no real rules to what you add to the tree. The use of oversized items, that are usually table top decor pieces creates such a sense of the story you are trying to tell, so the elves are easily tied into the back of the branches with pipe cleaners.
We lit the mantle garland using multi coloured battery lights which enabled the white shatterproof baubles to glow in the light reflected for a completely new look for night time and to finish, our whimsical table setting brings all of the elves elements with candy cane decorations as the table settings and finished with our designer Patience Brewster cake stand and lid to hold delicious Christmas treats to share.
So festive and so much fun.
Have fun recreating this cheeky look for your home using the following pieces:
Garland Multicoloured Lights
Candy Cane with Holly
Candy Red Finial
Red Ball
Elf Stocking
Posable Jolly Holiday Elf
Red with White Edge Poinsettia Pick
Green Glass Baubles
Lime Green Finial
Red, Green and White Snowflake Ornament
White Glass Baubles
Red Glass Baubles
Jester Stocking

2020 Christmas Theme - Mistletoe Manor
Our Mistletoe Manor theme has natural winter elements and snowmen blended with mistletoe tones and farmhouse check for a fun but elegant Christmas.
Last year's Christmas in Paris theme was so beautiful with it's soft sage green tones highlighted with silver and pewter that we just had to keep this very popular colour palette again for 2020. So, we have mixed it up with lots of snowy, wintery elements and added black and white buffalo check for some farmhouse fun.
Our tree is dotted with soft green and black & white buffalo check Poinsettia picks in our signature diamond format that creates the balanced base to add all the wintery elements to.
White frosty elves, large silver sleigh's and polar bears join the larger elements to appear to be leaping out of our tree with white, silver and soft sage green baubles in varied finishes scatter throughout to soften this look. These larger items have been tied onto the back of the branches using wire or pipe cleaners.
Our mantle is covered in a soft cedar garland with crabapple berries and 2 large silver deer and instead of a wreath, we have lifted this woodland look with wooden lanterns lit by led candles and foliage.
You can create this look for yourself using these gorgeous items listed below the images.

2020 Christmas Theme - Raspberry Pop
In our past themes, we have successfully blended navy with raspberry and raspberry with soft pink, but never all 3 together.
To our delight, bringing all three - raspberry, navy and soft pink together creates a delightful colour combination and a much deeper depth in all the tones for a more dramatic effect.
The final outcome is some serious WOW and a whole lot of fun!
Our Raspberry Pop theme is perfect for those of you wanting to steer away from the traditional Christmas colours and wanting something a little more sophisticated and playful and is a perfect fit in a home with neutral colouring as it's easy to add a pop of the theme colours with interior decor and cushions in your home as this combination will stay on trend for some time to come and rose gold touches will match in really well with this theme too.
The mantle garland is always lit with battery LED cluster lights for a lovely soft warm glow. We added raspberry artichoke picks, large and smaller bauble clusters and for some fun we removed the tops of our small 4cm balls and simply stuck them right onto the ends of the garland branches to create a little playfulness.
We used a mix of the raspberry, navy and soft pink in our table setting too. Soft pink table runners and napkins can be tied together with a mix of the navy and raspberry leaf picks by cutting smaller leaf sections off the large pick and finish with a contrasting ribbon and bow, which is such an economical way to decorate.
Our table centrepiece is more floral than traditional, using navy blue Poinsettia’s set into florist foam in a small classic urn and I'm sure you will agree, makes a sophisticated setting.

2020 Christmas Theme - Twist on Mistletoe Manor
This year we have seen more interest in the black/white farmhouse check ribbons and using these as part of the Christmas display.
In store we have created the Mistletoe Manor theme with this check and the addition of pewter, white, sage green and natural elements. Today's theme also has the black and white farmhouse check at its core with the pewter, white and natural elements. The only difference is changing the sage tones for red. And with this one little change the entire look is altered.
We have dressed just the front of a 2.28m slim tree, so if you are dressing a bigger tree, or your tree is visible all the way around (ie in a window) then your quantities will be different, however to achieve this look we used the following ribbon:
6 x 40cm pieces of 3 ribbons.
6 x 50cm pieces of 3 ribbons.
Each ribbon roll was 9m long and we finished off the rolls with the addition of bows on our table place settings. To achieve the look, the red glitter ribbon is 10cm wide and the two other ribbons are both 64mm wide.
Below these images we have a list of some of the elements we used to create this stunning tree.

2020 Christmas Theme - Arctic Blue
Our Arctic Blue theme is the ultimate elegance with soft blue, champagne gold, silver and a touch of snow white. This theme can also include light natural wood elements.
In our theme reveal we created a tree using flowers and pick bunches as the focal points. The flowers are a soft blue poinsettia and silver magnolia. The pick bunches were created by breaking up larger picks and mixing pieces together and then simply cable tying them together to create a bunch that used each of our main colours.
In the stop motion video you can see how we set the flowers out in a diamond pattern to begin with. don't worry that it looks like the flowers are all lined up when you have finished this step - once you add everything else you will not see the lining up of these pieces, but they do help create smaller spaces to them mix through your other decorations and picks.
Featured Products in this theme reveal include:
Champagne Iced Bauble
Champagne Curly Picks
Blue Velvet Ornaments
Silver Spray
Soft Blue Poinsettia
Silver Magnolia
Silver and Pearl Pick
White Snowflakes
Light Blue Ornament
Blue Table Runner
2020 Christmas Theme - Tropical Paradise
I've always been a fan of bright blue and lime green. I'm sure it goes back to my teenage years when Esprit had it as one of it's popular colour palettes (yes, it is going back).
As we planned our themes for this year we realised there were so many more beautiful combinations we wanted to share rather than just the primary store themes we were creating for 2020. Therefore, when the store was closed due to Covid-19 in July we started creating other colour combinations to share with you all. This gave me the perfect opportunity to put together a colour theme that I think is stunning in it's simplicity. Turquoise, bright blue and lime green are at the heart of this theme. You can also move into slightly deeper teals and sea green and include these, or the lighter blue tones in the mix. This theme is so fresh and fun, but also has an air of sophistication.

I hope you enjoy our Tropical Paradise Theme.
How to Add Ribbon to your Christmas Tree - Video
One of the most common questions we are asked is how you can add ribbon to your Christmas tree. In the past of course ribbon was used just as bows, but today there are so many wonderful ways to add ribbon to your tree.
In this example we have used our technique of cutting and tying pieces of ribbon through the tree. By cutting the ribbon we can use wire to attach to branches in the tree and place it exactly where we want to.
In the video below we will show you the steps to create this stunning ribbon display.
In this display, which is a 2.28m (7.5ft) wide Christmas tree we have used the following ribbon. Please note, we only dress the front half of the tree for the photos so you are going to need to double the quantities for the entire tree:
1 ribbon 38mm wide plus 2 ribbons 64mm wide. It is important this is wired ribbo.
Of these ribbons we cut the following pieces:
2 x 30cm 38mm ribbon
5 x 40cm of each of the 3 ribbons
5 x 50cm pieces of each of the 3 ribbons.
The narrowest piece is used at the top, and then you work the next width down the top 2/3's of the tree and the widest pieces in the bottom third of the tree. As you will see in the video we use pipe cleaners to attach the ribbon into the tree. The key is to attach the ribbon to the tips/branches more to the middle of each larger branch rather than on the outer tips. This helps get the curve and feeling the ribbon feeding in and out of the tree.
